Dr Nerys Astbury is a Nutrition Scientist and Senior Researcher in the Health Behaviours team in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Services within the University of Oxford
Her primary focus revolves around understanding the impact of dietary manipulations on weight management and energy intake regulation. As a co-investigator on the Doctor Referral of Overweight People to Low-Energy Total Diet Replacement Treatment (DROPLET) project, Nerys has received funding from the NIHR CLAHRC for a systematic review and meta-analysis on meal replacement products for overweight and obesity treatment. Currently, her efforts are directed towards developing a weight loss toolkit that utilizes meal replacements, aiming to aid individuals in managing their weight, including during pregnancy to attenuate weight gain.
Title:
Long term outcomes associated with gestational diabetes- and evidence for dietary interventions for prevention, treatment and management.
Summary: Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop during pregnancy. Currently, approximately 16% of UK pregnancies are affected by GDM- which makes it the most common form of diabetes in the UK.
Whilst most women are told this is largely a transient condition- which will go away after pregnancy, this talk will present recent data to demonstrate associations between GDM and longer-term outcomes associated with the condition and work to develop and test dietary interventions to prevent the development of the condition and mitigate the risks in the postpartum period.
