Student Career Launchpad

Student Career Launchpad
-

This is a past event

This event aims to give students an insight into the food sector beyond university.

The LaunchPad event will begin with a welcome and introduction to the day from IFST and The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health. The day will proceed with a key-note presentation about the wealth of opportunities in the Scottish food sector and how you can get your foot on the ladder. This will be followed by an inside look, from a recent graduate entrant, of one person's first career steps in this fascinating industry. These initial sessions are designed to stimulate you to consider the career options that best suit your preferences, inclinations and qualifications. See programme here.

The LaunchPad will also include a recruiter’s perspective advising you how to build your CV, apply for a job and prepare for an interview - all those hints and tips that will make you stand out from the crowd.

"Speed-Dating" mentors’ lunch is another exciting part of the day. Over lunch you will be able to move from table-to-table each of which is hosted by a specialist food-industry mentor. At these you will be able to discuss and explore subjects such as:

  • Working for a large organisation
  • Working for a small organisation
  • Careers in food manufacture and processing
  • Food science and technology in the retail sector
  • Employment in the food regulatory environment
  • Employer expectations of graduates
  • Career opportunities

Towards the end of the day, you will get a chance to tour the facilities at our host venue, the world-renowned The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health.

Throughout the day, you and your fellow students will have plenty of opportunities to network with students/mentors/ speakers especially during the interactive workgroup session and breaks.

Refreshments and lunches are being provided courtesy of the IFST.
