Dr Manly is a Lecturer in English at the University of St Andrews. Her areas of specialisation include literature of the 1790s and the works of Maria Edgeworth, with a particular interest in Edgeworth's religious politics. She is the author of Language, Custom and Nation in the 1790s: Locke, Tooke, Wordsworth, Edgeworth (2007).
