Professor Bartlett is Professor of Irish History at the University of Aberdeen. He is currently completing a Concise History of Ireland for Cambridge University Press. His research interests include a study of the military origins of the Irish state in the early modern period, and an examination of Irish attitudes towards the British Empire in the nineteenth century.
