Collective problem solving and sharing good practice

Collective problem solving and sharing good practice. The challenges in breaking out of institutional silos are well understood, and conversations on research culture across the sector are continuously evolving. The University therefore has a key role in highlighting good practice and sharing across Schools, as well as bringing people together to address areas which are more challenging.

The University of Aberdeen is hosting, on behalf of the Scottish Funding Council the new Scottish Research Cultures Collaboration Manager (SRCCM). Dr Frances Medaney has been in post since 4 November 2024.

This key role, hosted by the University on behalf of the Scottish higher education sector, will focus on advancing a collaborative vision for Scotland’s research culture. Through cross-institutional efforts, Frances will work to support research career development, reward and recognition, and to enhance the national research environment.

The Scottish Research Cultures Collaboration Manager role was created to provide leadership, resources, and advocacy for positive changes and has been co-developed with the sector. The SRCCM will engage with universities, UK funding bodies, and the research community to promote best practices and drive systemic improvements, ensuring that Scotland remains at the forefront of research innovation.
