Pre-requisites

BI 2002 and BI 20M3 and BI 25M1 recommended.

Overview

The origin and properties of genetic variation; chromosome structure and function; gene action in prokaryotes and eukaryotes; medical genetics; simple and complex genetic diseases; population genetics in relation to evolution; developmental genetics in model organisms; plant genetics. One essay will be written and examined.

Structure

3 one-hour lectures per week, 3 one-hour tutorials and 3 practicals during the course.

Assessment

1st Attempt: 1 three hour examination (70%) and in-course assessment (30%). Pass required in both components.

Resit: 1 three hour examination (70%) and in-course assessment (30%). Pass required in both components.
