Overview

Planetary geology, accretion, impact geology, evolution of life on Earth. Stratigraphic principles, developing relative and absolute chronologies, characterising depositional histories and sequence stratigraphy. The main sedimentary basin types, their tectonic setting and characteristics of their basin fill.

Structure

1 one-hour lecture per week and 1 three-hour practical or tutorial per week.

Assessment

1st attempt: in course assessment (40%) and 2-hour examination (60%).

Resit: two-hour examination.
