Course Description

This course will introduce students to real estate asset management from both investment and corporate perspectives. To develop skills in real estate asset management, students will work on a virtual portfolio, provided with the management information typically found in UK practice. The workshops comprise a series of structured problem-scenarios, which you will work together in groups to resolve. The final workshop will involve evaluating your performance against industry benchmarks to quantify the success of your asset management decisions.

Although working in groups to discuss the issues and propose solutions, all assessment is individual. The course will include opportunities to network with practitioners and develop your understanding of the current challenges for the real estate profession.

Topics, such as the following, will be covered:
investment and corporate real estate asset management strategies; structuring a deal; obsolescence – who pays?; the landlord-tenant relationship; the changing nature of the workplace; place-making and the experience economy; responsible management and the UN Sustainable Development goals (SDGs); sustainable buildings; ethics in the workplace; and performance measurement.
