The course aims to encourage students to examine critically issues relating to the cultural, political, economic and social environment in which they are living during their period of residence abroad. This course will extend students’ cultural and linguistic awareness and provide them with an opportunity to conduct their own research.

By the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake independent work and present their findings in an appropriate form. They will be able to relate the knowledge acquired to other aspects of their degree programme. They will have enhanced their writing and analytical skills. They will have developed transferable skills of self-reliance, time management, resourcefulness, analysis and presentation.
This course will follow a distance-learning model. Whilst abroad, students will be able to contact the course coordinator by email or virtual meetings to discuss any queries they may have.

An analytical review in English (500-700 words) of a book or film or media presentation originally published/released in the relevant foreign language in the host country; to be submitted in Week 10 of Aberdeen’s first half-session; 30% Written feedback |
