This course introduces students to the contemporary study of crime and social justice, and how these relate to individuals, communities, and sections of society. It explores key themes such as social justice, social harm and ethics.
In this course we adopt a critical criminological perspective in order to widen the scope of our interest and understanding to include a variety of social harms in societies and globally (e.g. environmental harm, state crime, and white-collar crime). We explore the relationship between crime and justice, social, economic, and political power, and social inequalities. The course equips students with the skills and knowledge required in order to critically analyse and reflect on the criminal justice system and social justice interventions.
