Course Description

This course will give you an experience of working in a team on a real project for a sponsoring partner company or organisation.

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to:

  • understand your skills and other strengths, and devise a personal skills development plan.
  • understand your personal team strengths, and the strengths of others in your team, using Belbin GetSet reports and personalised feedback (this will be delivered by a Belbin accredited assessor within the Careers Team).
  • experience an authentic application and selection process when applying for projects.
  • learn about and consider inclusion and professionalism in the workplace
  • experience project team allocation based on Belbin reports, selection performance and your project preferences.
  • collaborate with others in your student team to setup your project for success with achievable milestones.
  • complete your group project, meeting a number of project milestones.
  • have regular project milestone check-ins and submit pre-agreed project outputs.

This unique course is designed to mirror a real work project.  All projects will involve work that adds value to the sponsoring partner organisation. With this in mind, all assessments are designed around real project tasks. Some tasks will be completed by you as an individual (such as the project application and the final personal reflection) and some completed by the whole team (such as the project plan and the project team final submission). The course operates on an Achieved/Not Achieved basis, with emphasis placed on you meeting all of the course and project milestones to successfully complete the course.  Feedback from course coordinators and the sponsoring partner company/organisation throughout the project will ensure you will learn and develop throughout the project.

Projects will be designed to align to at least one of the Aberdeen 2040 strategic themes of sustainability, international, or inclusion. You will develop your capabilities to work effectively across disciplines as the course is open to Level 2 undergraduate students from any degree discipline.
