Conducting is an interactive course designed to provide an Introduction to Conducting. The course will focus on the development of baton technique (focused on the communication of musical intent through gesture to the ensemble) as well as issues concerning ensemble set-up, acoustic consideration, repertoire selection, advanced score analysis and rehearsal techniques.

Course Description

Conducting will focus on training conductors to work specifically with ensembles (Instrumental and Vocal) where participants are in training or amateurs. 

This course will also explore the core academic literature in the field, connecting both practical and academics studies in the field.

As well as a weekly 2hr lecture students will participate in the class ensemble which will rehearse on a weekly basis (1hr seminar). Each student will also get a chance to conduct the class ensemble throughout the course.
