Course Description

This course is structured chronologically, taking students on a journey through time from the Zhou dynasty (1045BC–256BC) to the present day. It explores China's rich translation traditions, examining pivotal historical shifts and its current involvement in global translation endeavours. An important aspect of the course is the exploration of the concept of the translator, analysing historical discourses and institutional practices that have shaped this construct. Prior knowledge of the Chinese language is not a requirement for enrolling in this course.
