Course Overview

This course is an introduction to the laws and rules of the UK Constitution.  Major topics include the institutions of state, parliamentary sovereignty, the rule of law, the separation of powers, and devolution.  This area of law is fast-moving, and an effort is made to address current issues.

Course Description

The course content will include: the concept of constitutional law and constitutions; the UK constitution and its sources; parliamentary sovereignty; the rule of law, the separation of powers; the composition, powers and functions of the UK Parliament and government, the composition, powers and functions of the devolved parliaments and governments; the role of the courts; devolution and its impact on the UK constitution; and local government.
