EG30G2: ENGINEERING ANALYSIS AND METHODS (2023-2024)

Last modified: 23 Jul 2024 10:43

Course Overview

The course is a variant of the existing EG3007 course, to be made available only to students on the Graduate Apprenticeship in BEng in Civil Engineering, and forms part of the Level 3 Honours Programme. The variation covers the same Learning Outcomes, content and assessment as the existing EG3007 course, but this variant is taught over both half sessions Other changes in the delivery model is that this is will use a blended model, whatever the state of Covid Lockdown.

Course Description

The course is set in an environment of engineering applications. The course starts with an introduction to Laplace transforms. The concept of transfer function is explored and used to study the stability of systems having feedback. An introduction is given to Fourier Series and Fourier Transforms and their applications. Engineering applications of MATLAB are then discussed. The numerical solution of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is discussed in the context of MATLAB. Practical work involving the MATLAB applications mentioned above is undertaken. The next section of the course is devoted to an introduction to partial differential equations (PDEs) is given. The use of MATLAB to obtain numerical solutions to Partial Differential Equations Toolbox is discussed.

Feedback

This exam covers the second half of the course and will take place during the normal exam diet at the end of the second half session. This course is not contemporary with the on-campus equivalent course and as a result will not be examined at the same time as that other course. This exam will, as a result, be an online-only exam delivered via MyAberdeen - but during the normal exam diet period for the second half session.

Feedback will be provided to the entire class in a summary of cohort exam performance, and on an individualised basis to students on request.

Feedback

Whichever of the two assessments whose failure has contributed to the overall failure of the course will have to be resat. The weighting of the resat elements will be as they had been previously – therefore for this Coursework the weighting will be 50%.

The marks for the resat elements will be incorporated with the marks for the previously passed assessments to produce an overall resit mark.
