Course Overview

This course supports you to learn from practice for practice and professional development, within a learning community and through collaborative enquiry. The course emphasises the role of the FE lecturer in enabling successful learning for all learners and requires you to critically reflect on your understanding of learners, including yourself. You will develop your understanding of the diverse characteristics of learners that impact on successful learning, and of approaches to facilitation that support learning for all. The course brings together ideas of critically reflective practice, effective facilitation of learning and the development of metacognitive skills for learning. It will support you to develop collaborative and reflexive approaches to continuing professional development.

Course Description

The course involves:

  • identifying a key challenge for you and your learners;
  • critical reflection on your current practice
  • reading for insights into the challenge and ideas for how to address it;
  • planning a new approach to responding to your learners, with support from your peers;
  • evaluating learning for you and your learners.

 

Course themes include: Critically reflective practice, thinking about learners, planning for learning, pedagogy and practice, evaluating professional practice.

Feedback

Drawing on challenges faced in their own practice,students are asked to investigate learners’ characteristics and develop strategies to support successful learning. Ideas should be informed by appropriate theory and peer feedback and presented in an analysis of learner characteristics, plan for learning and justification of the plan.

Formal written feedback will be provided and participants will be given the opportunity to discuss this feedback with tutors.

1000 word (or equivalent) reflective analysis based on a short video of practice made available to the tutor. The analysis informed by self- and peer- evaluation, and engagement with relevant theoretical ideas.,demonstrateing appropriate academic writing and referencing skills.

Formal written feedback on the assessed account will be provided on a feedback form and participants will be given the opportunity to discuss this feedback with tutors.
