Course Description

This course is part of the series of Modern German Culture courses which involve the study of selected aspects of modern German culture. In Modern German Culture 3 students will be introduced to pre-20th century German history, thereby complementing their study of pre-20th century literature in GM2543, and providing a broader understanding of modern Germany. While reading about and discussing German history, as well as analysing German texts and cultural artefacts, students will be invited to reflect on issues of continued relevance to today's society. Teaching will consist of lectures as well as tutorials in which students generate and discuss ideas about the study material and its contexts.

This course may be taken on its own, or together with GM2040 or GM2042.
