This course focuses on enhancing core research skills for the study of the medical sciences. It is a requirement for all students with direct (Articulation) entry into Level 3 Sport and Exercise Sciences and Exercise and Health Sciences BSc programmes. The course develops the essential skills that are needed to undertake a research project. Its aim is to instill an active student-driven approach to learning based on curiosity and exploration of knowledge as opposed to passive acquisition. Students learn to critically analyze published work, evaluate sources of information, basic presentation skills. This course also aims to develop an understanding of the psychology of sport and exercise. The content includes current theories, addressing psychological factors likely to affect individuals and their performance in the sporting environment.
