The course addresses international legal issues raised by the increasing need to secure cyberoperations. It questions the scope of the obligation of States to secure cyberspace; analyses general data protection; studies the level of cybersurveillance that remains compatible with human rights; and examines how to investigate and react to cybercrimes as well as cyberattacks targeting States.

The course addresses international legal issues raised by the increasing need to secure cyberoperations. It questions the scope of the obligation of States to secure cyberspace; analyses general data protection; studies the level of cybersurveillance that remains compatible with human rights; and examines how to investigate and react to cybercrimes as well as cyberattacks targeting States. Hence, the overall aim of this course it to determine the content of the emerging international law on cybersecurity.
Teaching will be delivered through discussion-organised seminars. Assessment is based on the drafting of an essay and an exam.
