Course Overview

This course introduces the essential theories, concepts, and strategies of second/foreign language teaching with the aim of having students utilize the knowledge they have gained about linguistics thus far in the program and apply it to the practice of language teaching. Students will learn how to create lesson plans, design and administer effective language learning activities, provide corrective feedback, and create a dynamic learning environment. Combining aspects of applied linguistics, psychology, and education, the course aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and competencies they will need to teach a language to others.

Course Description

Language Teaching is a rapidly growing field that could take you around the world, and whether you wish to make it an exciting career, a gap-year adventure, or a rewarding part-time job, this course intends to equip you with the integral skills needed to teach a language to others. It will cover theoretical perspectives and various teaching approaches, but the class will concentrate primarily on providing students with the practical knowledge that will prepare them to design effective lessons and conduct classes. Students will be able to differentiate instruction based on learners’ levels and ages, devise constructive tasks, provide useful feedback, and apply proven instructional techniques. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions on various aspects of language teaching, apply the concepts they have learned in small group activities, and develop their ability as a language teacher.
