Course Overview

Reviewing and extending knowledge from the Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Counselling with particular focus on the treatment of anxiety and depression. This will involve an understanding of the appropriate CBT skills and methods to use in relation to anxiety and depression.

Course Description

The course will introduce

  • The anatomy of emotions and use of mood diaries.
  • Identifying behavioural patterns and self-defeating strategies
  • Explore anxiety models – social anxiety and health anxiety.
  • The use of self-medication and identifying how this becomes problematic.
  • The use desensitisation activities to alleviate anxiety and depression.

Feedback

Tutor and Peer feedback based on skills in triad work.  This will assessed throughout the course during class. 

Verbal feedback will be given during the term time but at the end of the course students will write a self assessment.  Tutors will provide feedback on self assessment and final grade will be based on this.
