Course Description

The context of living, learning and working in the 21st century is complex, diverse and continually changing so effective teachers need to respond flexibly and positively to this. Learning How Others Learn builds on the experiences and outcomes of the first semester course Learning How to Learn, with a focus of study through collaborative enquiry into the many influences on children and young people’s learning. Academic studies on campus with are integrated with investigation and reflection on schools as learning communities. There will be opportunities to work with new technologies in collaboration with these schools.

This course is only available to students on the MA (Honours) Education programme.

Opportunities for student involvement in the content and structure of the course is given through the student-led seminars. Throughout the course, students are encouraged through engagement with others, to value diversity.

Feedback

Ongoing formative feedback on contributions and engagement with reading during tutorials.
In sufficient time to be able to be used by students to improve their work (typically within four weeks of hand-in, in line with the School of Education's policy on Assessment).
Appropriate and relevant feedback to help students understand where they have both gained and lost marks, and how to improve their mark.
Face to face meetings between tutors and students who have failed.
