The texts to be translated are varied and interesting and will appeal in particular to those students with a special interest in translation from Spanish into English.

Course Description

Course Aims: To develop students' translation experience and skills. Main Learning Outcomes: A student who successfully completes this course will have: Translated accurately and idiomatically a range of texts in Spanish. Have expanded his/her vocabulary, and knowledge of syntax and idiom in Spanish and English. Have encountered different varieties and registers of Spanish and, where appropriate, their English analogues. Content: Students will translate from Spanish into English a range of challenging prose passages.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: In-course assessment; 6 translations equally weighted (100%). Resit: 1 two-hour written examination (100%).

Formative Assessment

The co-ordinator is available for consultation and advice about preparation of assessments throughout the semester.

Feedback will be given by email on all translations. Additional informal feedback may be given in office hours on return to Aberdeen.
