Last modified: 27 Feb 2018 16:35

Course Overview

This course builds upon the theory, harmony and analysis courses at levels 1 and 2. It provides an opportunity for students to develop a knowledge of harmony in order to enhance their skillset for further musicological study, and to inform their work as composers or performers. Students will explore a range of genres, such as the piano sonata, string quartet and lied. Analytical work is intended to aid an understanding of harmonic progressions. Students produce weekly harmony assignments which may include analytical exercises, harmony exercises and pastiche composition. There may also be opportunities to explore improvisation in eighteenth-century style.
