To provide the student with the opportunity of pursuing a substantial and realistic exercise in the practice of engineering at or near a professional level, and to further enhance the student's critical and communication skills. The project will usually be carried out at the University of Aberdeen but may be carried out at industry or other research location.

Every student is allocated an individual engineering project which is supervised by a member of the academic staff. The project will normally be in the student’s area of professional interest.
Projects are of a wide variety and may include theoretical, computational, design, experimental, review and field work. In all cases aspects of project planning, written communication, and oral presentation are included.
This course is spread over both half-sessions. The student effort expected is equivalent to 15 credit points in the first half session and 15 credit points in the second half-session. The timing for a part-time student is determined on an individual case-by-case basis.

1st Attempt: Continuous assessment (100%): Winter Term Progress Report (30%), Poster Presentation (20%), Thesis (50%). Resit: There is no opportunity for resitting this course.
