Course Overview

This course is about business strategy and covers a broad range of topics that come under the general heading of “Business Strategy” or “Strategic Management”. The course has been designed to help you gain an understanding of the key areas of strategic management including an understanding of: what strategic management is and why it is important; the different types of strategic analysis tools available; the difference between corporate, business and functional strategy;  the complex issues associated with the implementation of strategy;  the concept of strategic fit; and the role for strategic leadership in shaping and implementing strategy.

Course Description

This course introduces the theories, concepts and techniques of analysis including external, internal analysis; corporate, business and functional strategies; strategy implementation; entrepreneurial and international strategies, corporate governance.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: 1 two-hour examination (60%); one individual report (30%, 2500 words); one group presentation (10%)

Resit: None

Formative Assessment

This will take place through seminar discussions, verbal feedback on group presentation and written feedback on the report.

Feedback

Feedback is given on the report. On a less formal basis, through verbal feedback during seminar discussions and group presentations. The report is submitted through MyAberdeen/Turnitin and is available to the external examiner.
