This course is an introduction to English Literature for those who do not know anything about the subject. We will learn what English Literature is and why it is important. We will also consider some of the key questions that are addressed by students and scholars of English Literature.

This course provides an introduction to English Literature and assumes no prior engagement with the subject. The course will examine what English Literary Studies is all about, what its methods are and introduce students to some of the key debates in the subject. It is intended to provide an introduction for those students who may wish to take level one English Literature modules.
