Sacred rituals help human beings structure their contact with the deity. At the same time they provide a social bond among those who participate in them. The course examines the content and function of a range of rituals - mainly Christian, but also Jewish and of other religions - from a variety of perspectives. It is a core course for all degrees in Theology and Religious Studies.

Sacred rituals have shaped the human interaction with the deity since the beginning of human culture. The course examines content and function of rituals and forms of worship - Christian, Jewish and of other religions - using the different approaches and methodologies in Theology and Religious Studies: Old and New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Christian Ethics and Religious Studies. Thus it offers not only an overview of a range of sacred rites and their functions, it also provides an introduction into the different disciplines.
