SN2502: SCANDINAVIAN LANGUAGE (SWEDISH) 4 (2015-2016)

Written and spoken Scandinavian language. Introduction to  cultural phenomena. Reading passages. Writing exercises. Translation exercises. Role play. Dialogue. Readings and discussions about Scandinavian culture.

This course follows on SN2002. Apart from continuing to build vocabulary and confidence, we will also learn to use the passive mood (e.g. “the book is written” or “the murderer was arrested”) and the past participle (“the arrested murderer”) as well as practise classic Swedish dilemmas, such as “tycker”, “tänker”, “tror” and “känner”. Subject to mutual agreement, you will read a book in Swedish and write a book review. In the end of the course, we will discuss job hunting. There are four compulsory seminars each week, with active practise and cultural elements interspersed.

1 two-hour written examination (60%); in-course assessment: written exercises (20%), class test (10%) and oral skills (10%).

Four written assessments, in weeks 3, 6, 8 and 11.

Assessments are given CAS marks, and written or verbal feedback is also given. Additional informal feedback on performance and workshop participation is also given.
