Course Overview

This course will look at the ways gender and sex matter in the context of global conflict and international crises. This might include terrorism or the global financial crises. Or it might include stories of rape in conflict zones or the kidnapping of school girls. The names and faces of the actors change over time and the content of the crises change. The questions asked on this course include, ‘where are the women’, what work is masculinity doing?’ and does anyone care about gender?

This course is open to Master of Arts senior honours students.  This course will be available in the second half-session of 2013/14.

This course will not be available in 2014/15.

Pre-requisites: 135 credits in Social Science courses

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: Continuous assessment: Critical review (10%) (1,500 words); essay (40%) (4,000 words); project (50%) (6,000 words).
