Course Overview

This course builds on the work done in years 2 and 3 and introduces students to a further range of topics in the field of music education. A broader range of Professional Studies topics current in Scottish Education are developed, such as Literacy and Numeracy across the curriculum, Children on the Autistic Spectrum and Emotion and Learning. Students have the opportunity to develop progressively the benchmark standards relating to the Standards for Registration.

Course Description

Professional Studies: these lectures continue coverage of educational principles and practice begun in Professional Studies 1 and Professional Studies 2. These include topics such as Literacy and Numeracy across the Curriculum and Children on the Autism Spectrum.

Practical Skills: Music students continue to develop practical skills relevant to the classroom including World Music, keyboard, sound engineering, MIDI sequencing, guitar and drum kit skills.

1st Attempt: Essay of 4,000 words on Education Studies topic (100%).

Resit: Resubmission of components of essay on Education Studies topic identified as having failed (100%).

Feedback

Oral feedback is provided in practical skills classes (keyboard skills etc). Written feedback is provided on the essay in the form of annotations to the script and a feedback form.
