Course Overview

Building on work done in MN 2001, this course will further develop all four basic language skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Classes on grammatical and linguistic analysis will contribute to the development of these skills.  It covers a good deal of ground in the four class hours a week, and requires considerable effort and self-study to consolidate new vocabulary, grammar and Chinese characters (hànzì).

Course Description

Please note, this course is designed for intermediate learners who have studied previous courses of MN1001, MN1501 and MN2001 or equivalent language level.  This course is not available to native speakers.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: Coursework (60%), Examination (40%), Oral (10%), written (30%).

Resit: 1 two-hour written examination (100%).

Formative Assessment

Four written assessments, in weeks 3, 6, 8 and 11.

Feedback

The above assessments are given CAS marks, and written or verbal feedback is also given. Additional informal feedback on performance and workshop participation is also given.
