This course, that is only available to final year honours students, allows you to write a 10,000 word piece on an aspect of law that you choose with the help of a supervisor. Once your topic and plan are approved by the law school you work independently and hand in the dissertation shortly before the Easter Break.

1st Attempt: Dissertation (100%). Resit: None.
The student is required to consult with a member of staff at the point of selecting a topic and then again at a later date to receive the approval of that member of staff on the viability of a draft dissertation plan proposed by the student. Both meetings provide formative assessment and advice. MA (Legal Studies) Students are additionally required to submit a literature review for formative purposes before receiving final dissertation approval. Final dissertation approval comes from the course coordinator but, in the event of disagreements as to the viability of the dissertation proposal the course coordinator will seek to resolve the issues in consultation with the student and relevant subject expert colleagues. If such resolution is required it offers an additional source of formative assessment.
