Course Overview

This course component introduces and develops the main underpinning principles of the DLITE PGDE programme, providing a forum for analysis and discussion of education in the practical context of classroom teaching.  A range of issues common to all students as developing professionals will be reflected upon, in particular issues which have implications for direct action in the classroom, such as Inclusive Practice.  Professional Enquiry provided students with knowledge and understanding of policy, theory, and research in the context of developing professional practice.

Course Description

The course is provided as a blended learning course, with a one day induction on campus, university tutor-led online learning, and face-to-face ‘Network’ days on some Saturdays within the local authority.  This is a compulsory course for all DLITE PGDE students and is the first course within the DLITE PGDE Programme.

The course consists of three elements which have overlapping themes of inclusive practice, social justice and reflective practice:

  • Curriculum Studies

  • Professional Studies
  • Professional Enquiry

 

Further Information & Notes

This course is ONLY for those who have been accepted onto the DLITE (Distance Learning Initial Teacher Education) PGDE Programme, in partnership with a local education authority. 

This course is run in parallel with the School Experience 1 A course, in the second half-session of the first academic year of DLITE PGDE programme of study.

A PVG check is mandatory for all students taking this course.

1st Attempt: One summative assessment in-course paper of 5000 words  - 100%
