This course deals with
important aspects of physical chemistry via a series of lectures, tutorials and
laboratory experiments. There are two
main themes of study. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of
spectroscopy and will gain a deeper understanding of the nature of chemical
bonding. An
introduction to the thermodynamics of important electrochemical systems will be
given. Electrochemical cells such as the
galvanic cell will be described, which derives electrical energy from the chemical
reactions taking place within the cell.
