This course will provide the opportunity for students to pursue in-depth exploration of a specific topic in Celtic and/or Anglo-Saxon Studies. It gives students an opportunity for intensive engagement in a specific area within the research field of an individual staff member, and can be arranged as preparatory work towards a dissertation. The content of this course may vary, but the course focuses on enhancing the student's knowledge and research skills in the specified topic. Students interested in taking the course should discuss their specific interest in advance, where possible, with the Programme Co-ordinator and a possible supervisor.

1st Attempt: Assessment option to be agreed between student and supervisor at the beginning of the course. 1. One essay of 1,000-1,500 words, including references but excluding bibliography (30%), and one essay of 2,500-3,000 words, including references but excluding bibliography (70%) or 2. One two-hour examination (60%) and one essay of 2,000-2,500 words, including references but excluding bibliography (40%). Resit: One essay of 2,000-2,500 words, including references but excluding bibliography (100%).
Formative assessment will be provided throughout the course, in scheduled individual meetings with the supervisor. These meetings will include detailed discussion of the student's progress in preparation for the assessments.
