Course Overview

This course is designed to enhance musicianship skills. It gives the students a thorough grounding in Keyboard Skills for use within their career path. The Aural Skills part of the course is designed to improve listening skills and this is balanced with a practical Performance Skills class using Tonic Solfa and Kodaly rhythm names and handsigns. There is also a Reflective Concert Essay where students are expected to Reflect on 8 concerts per semester.

Course Description

This course is taught across the whole session. NB: Entrance to this course for non BMus students is by audition only, arranged by contacting the Music Department during Induction Week.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: Continuous assessment by means of regular keyboard skills tests (34%); aural examination (33%); essay (33%).

Resit: Students resit the failed assessment(s). Keyboard skills examination (34%); aural examination (33%); essay (33%).

Formative Assessment

Students will be assessed formatively throughout the course by means of short in-course assignments as well as being monitored on a regular basis by teaching staff.

Feedback

Students will receive oral feedback during session on various aspects of listening, rehearsing as well as written feedback on written coursework.
