This course develops key legal skills for lawyers and those providing legal advice. It focuses on legal research practice (investigation strategies, advanced information searching, appropriate research methodologies, legal argument and ethical issues) including its written and oral communication; critical evaluation of resources and the operation of statutory interpretation. A practical approach to skills development is adopted with particular emphasis on cold start research and group work. The teaching is front loaded with time at the end of the course for students to use the skills developed in lectures and workshops to carry out research activities.
