Course Overview

Within School settings, students will initially observe, and with support, begin to plan and implement learning and teaching - gradually building responsibility. Students will critically reflect on their own practice in relation to key features of an inclusive learning environment, focusing on the role of the teacher.  Through observation of classroom practice, students will develop capacities and practise skills that enable them to prepare, plan, and implement learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation of learners.

Course Description

Aims - students will initially, observe and with support, begin to plan and implement learning and teaching within their subject gradually building responsibility, informed by reflective practice and professional dialogue; students will critically reflect on their own practice in relation to key features of an inclusive learning environment, focusing on the role of the teacher, stating considerations for future practice based on evidence of practice, policy and research.
Outcomes - observe classroom practice and develop a knowledge of context for beginning to teach their chosen subject(s) in the secondary school; develop capacities and practice skills that enable them to prepare, plan and implement learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation of pupils' learning and their own professional practice in their subject specialism(s); investigate a range of wider aspects of school life through completion of school based study tasks in their own sector and in the Primary setting and participation in a school programme of wider aspects; be aware of the work of other professionals as it relates to school pupils; demonstrate appropriate communication skills required for the different contexts of becoming a professional teacher in accordance with the GTCS Student Teacher Code; critically review and consolidate knowledge, skills and practices and thinking.
