This blended learning course allows students to put together a claim for prior experiential learning in addition to learning about experiential learning and reflective practice. Support is provided from a tutor.

Course Description

The Recognition of Experiential Learning through Professional Practice Course asks student to consider learning from all aspects of their life which relates to their professional development and to demonstrate that through academic writing and personal evidence. The course is assessed by a 2000 word written assignment and the production of a portfolio for credit. It is a 15 credit level 9 course and the portfolio is assessed separately for credit on the BA in Professional Development.

To undertake this course participants ideally should be employed in a relevant professional context or be able to access one. Voluntary work is acceptable. Contact the course co-ordinator if in doubt about suitability for access.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: Presentation of a justified portfolio of evidence of learning including a plan for future study.

A critically reflective report of 2,000 words on the significance of their learning for professional development.

Please note: Both parts of the assignment are required to complete the course and to gain the 15 credits.

The portfolio will be presented for credit on the BAPD (or other programme as required) and assessed separately.

A CASS mark will be given on the report only.

Resit: Resubmission on one occasion only of the above or part of the above.

Formative Assessment

Formative assessment forms a major part of this module and the tutor will work largely on an individual basis with students as they develop their portfolio and report.

Feedback

Formative assessment will be given both verbally and in a written or printed format.

Summative assessment will be given in a written or printed format indicating clearly positive and negative elements and, where necessary, areas for improvement.
