DR2555: READING NEW TESTAMENT GREEK (2) (2014-2015)

Course Overview

This course will further build on the acquisition of New Testament Greek in this Sustained Study programme in Biblical Language, and will offer the opportunity to translate some of the more complex portions of the Greek New Testament, drawing especially on the Pauline letters. Students will also have the opportunity to compare and translate facsimiles of some early New Testament manuscripts, and learn how to interpret the Textual Apparatus of a Greek New Testament, and make judgments about possible reasons for different textual readings.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: 1 two-hour written examination (60%); continuous assessment (40%) - one essay (1,500 words, 25%) and language exercises (15%).

Resit: 1 two-hour written examination (100%).

Formative Assessment

Students will be required to translate portions of the text, and comment on grammatical and translation issues in class. These contributions will be subject to informal formative assessment.

Feedback

Tutors will provide oral feedback on informal formative assessment; and written feedback on summative continuous assessment. Additionally, students will be able to obtain oral and written feedback on written examination summative assessment.
