This course will give you an overview of subsea oil and gas production systems and offshore renewables, and an appreciation of the infrastructure and facilities that need to be removed when the time arrives for decommissioning.
You’ll be introduced to various aspects of offshore structures and subsea systems, including wind turbines, subsea oil and gas hardware and pipelines, and their associated infrastructure. You’ll also learn how these systems are maintained and monitored.

The course will provide students with an overview of offshore structures and subsea systems, including the field architecture of subsea hardware and subsea pipelines, offshore wind turbines, and how such systems are safely maintained and monitored. Subsea production, end of life operations and decommissioning in various locations around the world will be discussed.
It will introduce students to the key technical terminology relevant to subsea and offshore infrastructure; describe various components of subsea systems, including their basic function, size and composition; explain how subsea production systems and offshore infrastructure combine to facilitate oil and gas production from subsea reservoirs; present the challenges and activities for subsea operations, subsea decommissioning, and subsea field life extension; and describe how subsea and offshore infrastructure is maintained, supported, monitored, and decommissioned using vessels and ROVs.
Information on contact teaching time is available from the course guide.

The course will have one multiple-choice test, which will be accessible to students once they have completed all parts of the learning materials. Students will receive a formative score between 0 and 100 for attempting the test. Students will be allowed unlimited attempts to improve their grade. Feedback will be communicated via MyAberdeen. The deadline for completing the test will be Week 4 of the term. |
