Course Description

Students gain a unique practical experience of ‘real-world’ practical relevance to their field of interest. Students will identify an appropriate topic for in-depth exploration alongside the guidance of the course coordinator and programme coordinator.  Within the case study it is expected that the student will spend approximately 2 weeks observing the case or phenomenon of interest this can be within a workplace, a charity or a health setting. They will then spend a further 2 weeks reviewing the current literature and scientific community and finally 2 weeks looking at policies and government guidance.  From these 6 weeks of data collecting students will then produce a case portfolio describing the phenomenon of interest and linking policy, research and practice

The aim is to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of a particular topic, including the academic background, relevant policy and the roles played by various actors and agencies.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Critically evaluate and describe a defined health topic within the broader context of public, civic, voluntary, development sector organisations and government agencies;
  2. Work independently in the collection of relevant evidence, synthesis and analysis to evaluate and appraise how research and or policies are implemented into practice within the defined health topic
  3. To create action plans to achieve personal goals and objectives through recognition of own strengths and areas for further development.
