Course Overview

This course is designed to prepare advanced or advancing healthcare practitioners who will be required to perform enhanced clinical assessment with enhanced autonomy with the additional comprehensive skills in History Taking and Physical Examination across major body systems. 

The course has been developed to address the essential clinical assessment and examination skills to enable a differential diagnosis to be formulated and are required for the role as defined in the national competencies for advanced practice.  The course is designed to enhance relevant knowledge of anatomy and physiology as they underpin clinical assessment. 

The essential skills gained in this course or equivalent are required for practitioners wishing to undertake non-medical prescribing. 

This course is core requirement of the PgCert Advanced Clinical Practice programme.

Course Description

The skills and knowledge gained from this course will enable the advanced / advancing practitioner to undertake a thorough clinical assessment of a patient including taking a full history and clinical examination.  This will enable the practitioner to define a differential diagnosis and plan of care including escalation if appropriate for the patient.  The course will include clinical assessment of all major body systems along with the underpinning anatomy and physiology. 

 

Aim:- The aim of this course is to equip you with a deeper level of knowledge, ability and critical awareness in relation to clinical assessment of the patient in any environment, the ability to differentiate normal versus abnormal findings and make appropriate recommendations and referrals for further management.   This is a blended learning course including theory, practical, simulation and work-based learning.
