This course will engage a significant area of debate in New Testament Studies by means of close and sustained evaluation of a particular work, or by a thematically arranged series of discussions. This will allow students to develop awareness of the major questions currently dominating the discipline and their backdrop in scholarship, thus helping students to identify ongoing challenges and prospects for future inquiry. The topic under consideration will vary in each delivery of the course.

This course will engage a significant area of debate in New Testament Studies by means of close and sustained evaluation of a particular work, or by a thematically arranged series of discussions. The course will contextualize the scholarly debate in relation to relevant socio-historical backgrounds that have given rise to particular approaches and will evaluate the currents or developments within New Testament scholarship themselves. It will also examine, where pertinent, the influence of one scholarly trajectory on other areas of development in New Testament studies. The course will therefore allow students to develop an awareness of the major questions currently dominating the discipline of New Testament Studies and their backdrop in the history of the discipline, as well as helping students to identify ongoing challenges and prospects for future research. The particular topic(s) under consideration will vary in each delivery of the course.

Reflective Report (comprising about 10-11 weekly reflections of about 200 words each). Feedback will take two forms. First, because journal entries will often the seminar discussion, that discussion will include consideration of students' reactions and questions. Second, formal written feedback will be supplied after the entire journal is submitted. Due at end of term, with possible supportive checks throughout at discretion of coordinator.
