Course Overview

This course comprises of three distinct parts:

  1. Research design
  2. Qualitative data analyses
  3. Quantitative data analyses

These parts are designed to provide in-depth understanding of conducting research in social science and humanities in general, and are linked to the requirements of producing a dissertation in Business Management at PGT level, in particular.

Course Description

This course is primarily focused on providing PGT students with required theoretical and practical knowledge for conducting research and writing a successful dissertation in the broad field of Business Management. The three components of the course directly correspond with the course assessments and learning outcomes. The assessments are focused on individual research proposal (35%) and individual qualitative and quantitative data analyses (65%). Through teaching conventions of conducting research in social sciences, research philosophy, and various theoretical lenses used in the field of Business Management, as well as proposal generation practice, in-class presentation practices, peer evaluation, text analyses workshops, statistical data analyses labs, and dissertation workshops, this course intends to:

  • Enhance students’ knowledge of theoretical requirements of doing research in Business Management.
  • Provide hands-on experience of developing research in the field relevant to their dissertations.
  • Enhance students’ presentation skills.
  • Improve students’ critical thinking abilities through evaluating others’ work and reflecting on one’s own output.
  • Enhance students’ abilities in analysing and making sense of Business research data.
