The aim of this programme is to develop a rigorous scientific approach to understanding of cardiovascular health and the underlying causes of cardiovascular disease. This will be achieved through a series of lectures, laboratory practical, case study sessions and interactive clinical demonstrations. This will be delivered by academic staff from the Institute of Medical Sciences and clinical staff from NHS Grampian. This will equip you with the full range of academic, critical thinking, research and investigatory skills necessary for laboratory research and/or PhD study.

The course will consist of taught lectures, laboratory practical, data analysis, clinical demonstrations and clinical case studies. By completing this programme you will be able to critically evaluate current concepts in the field of cardiovascular disease research; exhibit a deep understanding of how risk factors interact at a molecular, cellular and whole body level lead to the development of cardiovascular disease and gain a critical insight into cardiovascular therapies in the clinical situation; form a debate around the effects of different risk factors and how these contribute to health and disease; and finally design and conduct a research study that would answer an important question in cardiovascular disease therapeutic targets.
Information on contact teaching time is available from the course guide.
