To provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate that you are able to complete a substantial and original piece of research on a specialist topic within human osteoarchaeology you will produce an analytical osteoarchaeological project that includes necessary analysis, laboratory work and 12,000 words.

In completing their research project report students will be expected to demonstrate that they can both carry out independent analytical work on a human skeletal collection and conduct library research reviews situating their research question in its wider archaeological, methodological, theoretical and ethnical context. This work will contain a written component as well as all necessary illustrations, tables and records of analysis needed to make a successful archaeological analysis.
All students will receive staff supervision in identifying a suitable topic and in completing their original research project. A major source of archaeological human skeletal collections used for student projects will be the holdings of the the Marischal Museum at the University of Aberdeen. The museum holds extensive archaeological human skeletal collections from a range of regions and periods, including a large collection from the major medieval towns of eastern Scotland.
Your research project will be presented as part of the archaeology post-graduate mini-conference or similar venue during your time in Aberdeen.
