Course Overview

The MSc Individual Project is an independent piece of research based on a topic related to a student’s degree programme. Course Description

The individual project allows students to conduct an extended research project on a topic connected to their degree programme. Students can either select projects from a list curated by the School or propose their own projects. Projects proposed by students are subject to the approval of the course coordinator. Projects linked to industry are encouraged, and these can be sourced either by the Student or the School.

Over the course of the project, students will develop skills in technical writing, critical evaluation of literature and the presentation of research data. Projects may involve experimental, theoretical, or analytical work, but should include a degree of original research. Students will be assigned an academic supervisor, who will provide guidance and formative feedback via regular meetings. At the end of the supervision period, students will produce a dissertation and give a presentation on their work.

This variant of the MSc Individual Project will be run part time over a period of 24 weeks, and is the MSc individual project course for online learning MSc students on programmes that commence in January and contain a 60-credit individual project. There are separate project variants for campus-based students and online learning students who start programmes in September.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.
