Course Overview

This course aims to provide participants with a critical working knowledge of the key aspects of research and enquiry, in the context of professional learning and the enhancement of professional practice. Participants will source and critically engage with relevant literature and other evidence to provide a backdrop to the design of a small-scale enquiry in professional context. Decisions taken during all aspects of enquiry design will be justified using evidence. Enquiry processes implemented will be critically evaluated, and implications for future practice uncovered.

Course Description

The course will support participants to design, develop, implement and evaluate small-scale enquiries to critically explore some aspect of their professional practice drawing on a range of evidence from literature and context. The knowledge and skills developed are transferable to further PG study (such as Dissertation) and applicable to on-going evidence-driven professional learning and development.   

 

Participants will develop skills to:

 

  • Critically evaluate academic literature;
  • Search for and source academic literature connected with your professional interests;
  • Analyse evidence and arguments to support your professional judgements;
  • Justify the design of a small-scale enquiry, in the context of policy, research and current practice;
  • Understand ethical requirements in relation to the design and implementation of enquiry;
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data from professional settings using a range of methods;
  • Critically evaluate enquiry processes using primary and secondary evidence.
